Lower = smaller file. Higher = sharper.
Re-encoding drops EXIF/XMP/GPS. Slight quality change is normal for JPEG.
FAQ
What gets removed?
Typical EXIF, GPS, and many XMP fields are dropped because pixels are redrawn onto a fresh canvas. Embedded thumbnails go away too.
Is the image identical?
Pixel values may shift slightly with JPEG re-encoding. Use a high quality setting, or PNG if you need lossless pixels.
Why not just delete the header?
A pure binary stripper is more precise but format-specific. Canvas re-encode works across JPG/PNG/WebP in every modern browser without native modules.
Screenshots?
Most screenshots have little EXIF. Still safe to run if you want a clean export.
